Vinegar Wash to Keep Berries Fresh Longer

I love getting emails from my step-grandma. Most of the time they are forwards but I know if she took the time to send them on to me they are gonna be good! Just the other day she sent a great one about keeping berries fresh longer.

I was a bit skeptical but tried it and I think it's a great idea. All you have to do it mix 1 part vinegar to 10 parts of water, put the berries in, swish them around a little bit then drain and you are done! I rinsed my strawberries very quickly and didn't notice any vinegar taste.

The vinegar kills any mold spores or bacteria that might be on your berries. I think mine just felt cleaner too. We have extra kids around here this week so I won't get to see how long they will last, but the email I received said berries have lasted up to 2 weeks!

Good luck, and happy berry eating!

I'm really wondering what gets put on strawberries to help preserve them, because these literally felt clean after the vinegar.

This is something that I am going to try for sure. I hate it when I buy strawberries and not even 2 days later they have mold on them!
