I'd walk a mile for a Snickers and a Mt. Dew

Mama Kat's writer's workshop for this week is due today. I chose prompt #1.) Complete the sentence "I'd walk a mile for _______ " and continue writing about it.

Because I'd have to walk at least that far to burn off the calories I've gained just eating them. I have made many stops after a bus run just for the long coveted Snickers and Mt. Dew. And it doesn't have to always be a Snickers, last night it was a Milky Way.

I don't know what it is about the yummy chocolate that just gets in my head. Even right now, I can almost taste it. I may have to go for a walk....or better yet a drive to the gas station.

Writer's Workshop - I wish someone would have told me...

....that Mr. Right would actually eventually come around. I always felt I knew that he would but no one ever really helped me believe it. I hope that I can help my kids realize that even though the boyfriend/girlfriend that they have now might seem like the right one, chances are when they are older they will have no idea where their current 'love' is. My high school sweetheart was a good guy, class clown someone that everyone wanted to be around. At the time I thought I loved him and I still think I did in some way...but that love does not even come close to the love that I feel for my husband. I assumed after graduation that we would just get married, because it was what you did. Dated someone in HS, went to college, and got married.

Kids, and even some adults, are so quick to jump into sexual relationships and living together and marriage that it's no wander our country's divorce rate is so high. My husband married his high school sweetheart when he was 24 and she was 20, they had a rough relationship during high school and college, but for some reason felt they still wanted to get married. I don't know if they just assumed that what's the next step was or what...but it ended in divorce. They had 3 beautiful girls together, and communicate well because of the girls, be he hates some of the choices she now makes, not only as a mother but a woman.

Getting married young isn't always the way to go. If you are contemplating getting married then I would suggest wait. You have got to be absolutely sure, make sure you can feel it in your gut. No doubts. The right person for everyone is out there somewhere. He/She will come around someday and when they do....you will be the happiest person in the world.

I know I am.

And I don't want you to think I assume all young marriages don't work. My in-laws got pregnant young and married young and they are still together after 35 some odd years. So it can work. The thing is it's just that, work.

So that's my thoughts on this subject for today.

With the holidays just around the corner I thought I'd share one of my favorite memories

...plus it's one of Mama Kat's writing prompts for this week.

I don't remember how old we were but my sisters and I were all elementary age, the youngest wasn't in school yet if I remember correctly....but we each had told Santa what we wanted the mostest, and like other kids our age we tried our darndest to stay up and sneak a peak of the jolly ol' guy. Of course we didn't make it up long enough, but were up around 6 am.

I got the coveted Barbie house with elevator. {The link is the closest photo I can find to what I remember my house look like. I do think my elevator was purple, but I know I had the accessories that are in the photo.} I loved that Barbie house. Until the night I was having a bad dream and woke up and thought the elevator was a brown bear. It was a cub mind you but I was terrified, and screaming at the top of my lungs. I remember my mom being pretty scared too, because she had know idea what was wrong.

The middle sister was a Purdue University fan, I think mainly because my dad was a huge Indiana University fan, and growing up in Indiana made the two school huge rivals. Well Middle Sis wanted anything Purdue, which I will say was normally banned from our home. She got her wish and got a Purdue rug for her room and some Purdue pencils and paper I think...just some kind of other little goodies. She was so excited that she got something that she knew dad would just absolutely hate.

Mom took a picture of us when Middle Sis opened her new rug and she had a huge smile on her face! Dad was excited because she was so happy. He even was smiling too.

I think the reason that this memory is so special to me is because the photo is buried with my father in his grave. He will take that memory with him always and so will we. At first I was upset with my sister for placing that photo in his casket on the day of his funeral but I understand better know. I think she was truly happy that Christmas day and knew that dad was too. It was sort of a happy ending for her, and way to help her through his passing. I on the other hand thought, "Dad won't want that Purdue picture in his grave with him". But during a time of loss everyone deals with things differently.

It just makes me realize how important parents are in making special memories for their kids. We may not feel it now, but several years down the road the kids will remember the little things that we have done to make them feel special. Sometimes the small things are the most important.

I hope that you and your family have a happy holiday season this year.

If I could take work off tomorrow I would....

I'm a newbie to Mama Kat's Writing Assignment. If you haven't checked her out yet...do!

...get up with the kids and make them breakfast. My first thought was to sleep in, but when you have 5 youngins' at home that is nearly impossible. I hate not knowing what my kids eat for breakfast and if their clothes are appropriate for school. Since I drive the school bus, they are home in the morning to fend for themselves.

I would make my 'famous' Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and serve up some big glasses of milk. I wouldn't even complain when all 4 of the older ones are in the bathroom getting ready, sharing the 1 sink and rushing around. I would then happily drive them the block and a 1/2 to school...they hate to walk.

After getting everyone off to school, the baby and I would probably want to play at the playground so we would hang out there for awhile. Plus I'm like a celebrity at the school and would have to give out several hugs to kids who think my bus rocks!! Then we would come home and watch some Barney, Wiggles, Yo Gabba Gabba, Toy Story (1 or 2), Everyone's Hero, Dora, The Price is Right....the list could go on and on. Whatever he wants.

For lunch we would enjoy Mac-N-Cheese. It's a tradition from the sitters that carries over to home some Fridays. For nap time the baby and I would snuggle in Mom's bed and put in another movie and sleep the afternoon away.

After school is over [and yeah no afternoon bus run!] we would maybe be up from the nap and go for a walk to the school so we could walk home with Brother and Sissy.

Since I'm not doing anything work related, I wouldn't have Volleyball practice so I would help the hubby make something yummy for dinner, preferably something on the grill. Burgers, fries and chocolate shakes sound nummy good.

Then it would be off the the High School football game....it's here in town tomorrow. And since I'm not working I won't have to volunteer to take money at the gate either, and can enjoy the whole game with the my hubby. I'm sure I'll be beat by the end of the night but I sure would enjoy a day off....I am actually feeling rather ill....maybe I should call in sick tomorrow.
